Ahoy!  Summer often calls for a little career-hibernation, and I’ve indulged this year both with non-musical travel and some stints in the orchestra pit for local children’s theater musicals.  Will be getting back on the horse soon, though, with some upcoming performances (skip there) and other endeavors.

It’s been a treat to watch the new album go all this time (still haven’t snagged yours?: www.wesweddell.com): hanging around the Folk Charts (yes, such a thing lovingly exists!) for a spell and logging spins on stations near and far; gathering some stellar reviews (many here; I’m particularly fond of this one); and sharing the songs with so many good folk.  Thanks to all the DJs, station personnel, reviewers, et al – largely a volunteer army! – whose care and time make it happen...a feeble attempt to return the karmic favor has been my penning an occasional ‘Rough Mixes’ column for the Victory Music Review (archives here).

And I recently received exciting news from the inimitable Hank Cramer – singer, soldier, shantyman, and more – who has recorded “Carry On” and plans to release it on his next CD!

Now, the gigs (full specs below): the Tri-Cities’ Tumbleweed Music Festival is an annual highlight Labor Day weekend, and in addition to my regular performance I will once again emcee the songwriting contest (and at other stages around the grounds), where the winner will take away a trophy hand-made by yours truly.  The following weekend I’m delighted to participate in the Icicle Arts Festival in Leavenworth, WA, presenting a workshop and judging the song contest there.

And in October I’ve been asked to join Seattle’s version of the Bushwick Book Club, for which local songwriters compose and perform a tune inspired by a particular book: Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five in this case.  And I’ll be teaching all through, including mandolin classes at Dusty Strings in Seattle starting...tonight!
